J.C. AJMANI

Born in Shimla into a middle-class family notable for breeding educationists and civil servants. Educated at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and Brasenose College, Oxford. Joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1952. During a career spanning 36 years, served as Ambassador to Germany, Italy, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay and as High Commissioner to Australia. Also had a stint as Dean of the Foreign Service (Training) Institute. Since 1994, working as Adviser to Child Education Society, Delhi, the apex body of nineteen educational institutions with a student enrollment of over 27,000. As educationist, one of his passions has been to try to do his bit to plug yawning gaps in Indian education.
